Hotel Shoot in Antwerp

Over the last days I worked on my capabilities to take pictures of models on location. There is definitely room for improvement. I hope that more practice will help me to create beautiful pictures of people on unfamiliar locations with less than optimal light conditions. So, I rented a hotel room in Antwerp and tasked myself to do 3 fashion photo shoots with 3 models from ModelMayhem. It proved to be a very good experience. I learned that hotel rooms are not made for photo shoots. I have to rethink how I deal with my light for this type of locations. In such an environment one must improvise and improvise, but luckily the girls are here of great help too. I have to thank Lieneke (Jolien), Molly VB, and Atje (Priscilla) for working with me and turning the sessions into a succes; the 3 “shoots” delivered some very nice pictures.

Doo-Hyoun Kwon's Beautiful Ambiphotos

Last week I met the artist Doo-Hyoun Kwon (1969, Gangneung, Korea) in Leipzig (Germany). He received a scholarship to extend his skills in the domain of painting. He showed us his recent work; but it were his so-called ambiphotos that really caught my attention. The ambiphotos are actually photos that depict his subjects with a lot of color and motion blur in a beautiful fashion. Go to his site and see more of his work.

Gallery Weekend at the Spinnerei in Leipzig

Yesterday I visited the gallery weekend at the Baumwollspinnerei in Leipzig. This event provides unique opportunities to see the exhibitions at the galleries, meet the artists and visit their studios. I really had a great time and consider returning to Leipzig in September to join the Autumn edition of this event as well.

At the Maerzgalerie I saw for instance paintings by Sebastian Schrader (Berlin, 1978). In his work he combines contemporary situations with compositions that we know very well from classic paintings. The effect is intriguing.
